Social Ministry Committee:


Social Ministry Committee is responsible for all social events of the Church life, funeral luncheons or dinners, any receptions, picnics, and covered dish or coffee hour for n special occasions.  When they are not responsible for an event such as a wedding reception or a rehearsal dinner, they shall be notified.   They are also responsible for stocking the pantry with items such as cups, napkins, coffee, tea, etc and keeping the Fellowship Hall organized. 

 

Meetings are scheduled the last Tuesdays of January (organizational) and June (plan outdoor service for August) at 7:30 PM and other times as needed.

Fund Raising Committee:

 
Fund Raising Committee organizes activities and programs for raising funds for the Church above and beyond the offerings and envelopes.   All proceeds go to the General Fund and are used to support the Church's Annual Budget.   Some Fund Raising activities include selling of sandwiches, pizzas, bus trips, candy, baked goods, Bar-B-Q's, etc.  All other committees and organizations raising money for the Church or themselves will inform and seek permission of the Consistory. 

 

Meetings are held randomly.

Rental Committee:

 
The Rental Committee is responsible for developing the rules and regulations for renting the grove pavilion, grove kitchen, Fellowship Hall, and Fellowship Kitchen; to keep an up to date reservation book in the Church Office with dates, organization or family renting the facilities, contact person for each and a telephone number they can be reached; and recommendation of fees for rental use.  Meetings are held as necessary.

Altar Guild


Altar Guild changes the paraments (altar and pulpit cloths); the posting of the yearly flower and bulletin sponsor charts; the disbursement of altar flowers not taken by the sponsors or those sponsored by the Church; decorating the sanctuary and chancel area at occasions such as Harvest Home, Easter, Memorial Day, Palm Sunday, Ascension Day, and Reformation Day; takes care of roses for the Bud Vase for baptisms and Totenfest (Remembrance); cares for the Altar candles, brassware, Advent wreath, wedding candle set, the repair and upkeep of Altar paraments and linens; as well as the training and scheduling of acolytes.  Meetings are scheduled as needed.

Evangelism Committee


Evangelism Committee is responsible for seeking out the un-churched in the community, acquiring new members, the publicity and promotion of the Church, the faith life of the congregation, road signs, and to make the local community aware of the church and its programs.  In addition it oversees the sending of cards to the sick and home-bound, the Prayer Chain and Prayer requests, Secret Prayer Pal and any advertising, and any welcome and gifts to visitors.

 

Meetings are held the third Tuesday on or about a quarterly basis at 7:30 PM.

Property Committee

 
Property Committee is responsible for the care and upkeep of the property, and other duties such as snow removal, lawn mowing, equipment, and any property problems and maintenance.  This committee will maintain a yearly inventory of the church property including furnishings of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ keeping one copy in the Church Office and one copy off site.  Members of this committee will become familiar with the mechanical and electrical systems involved with the church building and/or buildings.  They will supervise collection of recycling such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, etc.

Memorial


Memorial Committee suggests and approves all memorial gifts from members and friends of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ and oversees the purchase, construction and dedication of such appointments as well as maintaining a book of such memorial gifts.  Undesignated memorials of $1000 and less shall be deposited in the Memorial Fund and used upon the initiative of the family or the church as needed or desired.  The committee reserves the right to refuse any gift and will be responsible for educating the congregation regarding planned giving.  Members of the congregation may be requested to serve in an advisory capacity.  This committee shall recommend with reasons given to the Consistory the approval or rejection of any donated item or gift.

Worship and Music Committee


Worship and Music Committee plans all special services (Hanging of the Greens, Christmas, Lenten mid-week services, Outdoor services in the Grove, Totenfest) with the Pastor, Organist/Choir Director.  This committee is responsible for decorating and removing decorations for the Christmas season (including Hanging of the Greens) as well as the Lenten/Easter season.  This committee makes recommendations regarding aspects of worship as well as overseas the Faith and Mission Moments during the 11:00 service.

Finance and Audit


Finance and Audit shall oversee the auditing of the Treasurer's Books and the finances of the congregation making sure that all monies are appropriately accounted for and make suggestions that would improve the finances of the Church. They shall also prepare and present an annual church budget for the consistory's approval and recommendation to the congregation.

Spiritual Council


Spiritual Council consists of the Elders and the Pastor and is responsible for preparing the elements and assisting the Pastor in distributing Holy Communion during worship; overseeing the formation and education of the confirmands; meeting with those who desire to join the church; checking the rolls annually and keeping them current for active and inactive members; encouraging the inactive to return to worship and participate in the life of the church; granting transfers; and informing members of erasures from the rolls after attempts to reactivate the delinquent members.  The Pastor serves as chairperson appointing an Elder to keep records of all proceedings with a majority of the members constituting a quorum.  The members of the Spiritual Council will pray regularly for the the ministry and people of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ.

Christian Education


Christian Education Committee includes the Sunday school teachers, officers, and two lay representatives.  The committee is responsible for choosing curriculum for Sunday school and Vacation Bible School; securing teachers, helpers, substitutes, musicians and other staff that might be needed for the Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and other educational areas of the church life.  They plan special Sunday school programs for Easter, Christmas, and Promotion Sunday. 

Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM.

Nominating Committee


Nominating Committee maintains an accurate record of those serving on Consistory and committees and contacts the chairpersons of each committee to inform them of those who are eligible or ineligible to serve another term and receive chairpersons recommendations for candidates.  A list of possible candidates, including new members and those expressing interest of serving as well as those recommended by committees, Consistory or from the congregation, will be kept by this committee to be used when there is a vacancy.  All vacancies on the Consistory or any committee are filled by this committee's recommendation.  A list of Consistory and committee members will be posted in the Church Narthex.

Personnel Committee

 

The personnel committee is to devise and keep current job descriptions for employees of the church (i.e. Pastor, Organist, Choir Director, Secretary, Sexton) and recommened qualified individuals for these positions with the exception of Pastor for the Consistory and/or congregation’s approval. This committee will also act as liaison between the employee and the members of the congregation handling appropriately criticisms and concerns. Annually, this committee will review the job performance and make recommendations to the Budget Committee regarding increase in financial compensation with the exception of the Pastor whose compensation shall follow PNEC guidelines.

Meets first Thursday of each month at 7:00
